Re : Restrictions Regarding Import of Used Vehicles into India

Pursuant to Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT)’s notification No. 4, (re-2001)/1997-2002 dated 31/03/2001 of excising the power of restriction of import of used vehicles into India. Under the Indian Customs Laws, import of second hand “Left Hand Drive” cars is NOT permitted. In addition, import of automobiles (including second hand “Right Hand Drive” cars) older than three years is also NOT allowed.

For more details of the restriction, it is suggested to consult your importer in India prior to shipment to avoid

cargo possibly detained by customs.
