Subject: Stop accepting Used Electrical Appliances/Goods to Nigeria

 

Please be informed that the new instruction from Nigerian Government Agency ‘NESREA‘ (the Nigerian Environmental Standards & Regulations Enforcement Agency) as follows:

Please note that ‘NESREA’ have started taking an interest in cargo/units that are either classified as Toxic Waste/Banned substances or may contain same.

 

To this affect NESREA have recently commenced inspections, with the intention to bar toxic waste entering the country, and unfortunately have chosen to delay and detain whole vessels and not just certain/questioned individual containers/units being subject to inspection or action.

 

However, those targeted commodities include – Old/Used Freezers & Refrigerators, Used Tyres, Old & Used Televisions, Computer Hardware and Waste Pharmaceuticals.

 

The National Environmental Regulatory and Standard Agency (NESREA) will be targeting regarding ‘Used Electrical Appliances’ which are at present attracting attention from NESREA as Toxic Waste.

 

The regulation and actions of NESREA are aimed at all used electrical items. These include Refrigerators whether they contain CFCs or not (since Nesrea cannot identify newer non CFC models), TVs, mobile phones, computers and even Irons.

 

Only new electrical items in manufacturer's packaging are acceptable.

 

Therefore, we will stop accepting bookings of ALL “used electrical goods/appliances” to Nigeria with immediate effect until further notice.
