DISPUTE BETWEEN TRANSNET AND LABOUR

19 May 2010

Dear Principal,

Transnet unions strike action

Unfortunately we have seen the continuation of the Strike action at the Port of Durban with no sign of any party reaching agreement.

The port of Durban is currently at a virtual standstill with resources for the following areas:

  1. Marine services ¡V limited berthing and sailings using skeleton staff
  2. Container terminals Pier 1 and DCT ¡V 5 gangs were working yesterday and this will be monitored

during today

  1. Maydon Wharf ¡V not working at Transnet berths. Leasehold (Maydon Wharf 5 and 15) is currently

working but could be affected by intimidation later.

  1. Point not working
  2. Car Terminal ¡V has managed to work 1 vessel at a time

We will keep you fully appraised as the situation continues and we receive updates from Transnet.

Our understanding from wharf side talk to various people is that the strike has no end date as of yet and will last up to 2 weeks Monday 24th) . As information comes to hand, we shall update you accordingly.

Trusting this information will be of assistance.

Best regards
