Transnet statement on
wage talks
At the request of Satawu,
one of the two recognized trade unions, Transnet has agreed to postpone today’s
meeting with unions to 13h00 tomorrow to enable the unions to canvass the views
of their members on the company’s settlement offer.
Due to the size of Transnet’s operations and
the geographically dispersed workplaces, more time is needed to effectively
communicate the details of Transnet’s offer to union members.
As a result of this request, we will only be in
a position to give a full report on the details of the negotiations after that
meeting. Until then, Transnet will not comment on the details of the talks to
ensure that the process is given every chance to succeed. We trust that this
request will be respected.
Meantime, we will maintain our senior teams at
command centres throughout the country to ensure that
recovery plans are put in place to make up for backlogs accumulated during the
strike.
